    t is very important that we get sleep. However, when none of your muscles work, the mattress feels like it has a gravitational pull. It feels like your body weighs 1,000,000 pounds. This video shows how, in coordination with my wife, I am able to sleep. Typically I can sleep about two hours on my side, and about 3 to 4 hours on my back. We end up moving 3 to 4 times a night. For those who want to know, we have a Tempur-pedic soft split king mattress with the elevation package. This has been a very nice bed for me. Stay strong, a cure is near!

5 Crazy Things That Happen If You Don’t Get Enough Sleep! Description: Almost everybody has been there, you barely closed an eye for some reason or maybe you couldn’t sleep at all. Others complain that they only slept for a few hours, maybe even just one or two. Most people experience the negative effects of lack of sleep already after just one night. Tiredness, for example. However, this symptom is one of the worst that can happen to you by missing your precious hours of sleep. With this being said, I bring to you 5 Crazy Things That Happen If You Don’t Get Enough Sleep! Lets begin! 1. Inefficient Brain Any chance you are sleeping less because you need more time to get certain things done ? You may be disappointed. Sleep deprivation can make our brain much less efficient. To put it in other words, regular naps can help your brain to remain effective and efficient. Just like a computer, you must quit now and then, and we must also allow the occasional night of sleep for our brain to regain the strength needed. 2. Dying Brain Cells All of the listed things in this countdown are worth worrying about in an everyday context, but even if you’re safely in your own room, surrounded with some healthy food and with lack of high-risk business, you are still killing brain cells by doing just that. Studies with mice have shown that after a long period of no sleep, about 25% of the brain cells just stop working. And eventually they die off. Other studies have shown that sleep deprivation reduces the integrity of the white part of your brains. It will not be immediately fatal, but it’s certainly not healthy at all! 3. Lack Of Attention Do not underestimate a regular person. Humans in an awake state are very good at paying attention and being alert about his or hers surroundings. We can perceive, feel or hear the smallest movements when we want to. A decent lack of sleep, however, can ruin all those ‘super’-powers. Lack of sleep makes us more or less deaf, silly and blind for things happening around us. Not literally, of course , you still see those things, but you barely notice them. You are literally unable to concentrate or to focus your attention on what you truly want. 4. Car Accidents No, lack of sleep does not always lead directly to you crashing your car, especially if the person that’s lacking of sleep is not driving the car himself. But what does happen is that too little sleep can build up in a longer period of time and can appear at times when you can least afford it. For example, when you drive your car on the highway. Research has shown that drivers who have a lack of sleep have a good perception of the risks they take, but in fact it is more dangerous to drive with lack of sleep than when you ‘re drunk! Crazy huh? 5. Bad Planning After about 36 hours of no sleep, your ability to plan and coordinate your time and actions will be totally off track. Tests have shown that a major part of your brain, the part that takes care of the scheduling of operations to start and stop, simply stops working, already after a few days of sleep deprivation. That’s why people with sleep deprivation easily remain in a circle of certain behavior, and keep repeating the same act, or continue to walk around in a cloud of doubt, rather than making decisions. It occurs when a person passes between stages of wakefulness and sleep. During these transitions you may be unable to move or speak for a few seconds up to a few minutes. Many sufferers describe sleep paralysis like they have woken up dead. They suggest that your mind wakes up but your body doesn’t, so you essentially feel trapped inside your body and unable to move. According to science there are two types of sleep paralysis: isolated sleep paralysis, or ISP, where sufferers will experience sleep paralysis once or twice in their lives, and recurrent isolated sleep paralysis, or RISP, where a person will experience several episodes during their lifetime. RISP is more intense because it can last up to an hour and it can be accompanied by an out-of-body experience. Most people who suffer from sleep paralysis have said they feel like something or someone is in the room with them (during an episode) or like they have actually seen or heard something as well. Pretty scary experience now that I think about it. Sleep paralysis occurs twice as often to men than women. The good news is that SP is less common in the general population than was previously thought. A 1999 study in Germany indicated that the disorder is often associated with a mental disorder. The bad news, however, is that when SP occurs you can’t wake yourself up. You might be able to move your toes or do facial expressions but you can’t fully wake up and unfortunately you will have to wait it out. Many people wrongly connect sleep paralysis with night terrors when in reality they are completely different from each other. A night terror is a sleep disruption that seems similar to a nightmare, but with a far more dramatic presentation. One theory on sleep paralysis suggests that the phenomenon is a result of REM sleep disruption where the body is still in a state of muscle atonia, which prevents a dreamer from acting out their dreams. This effect was discovered in 1839 by Heinrich Wilhelm Dove and earned greater public awareness in the late 20th century based on claims coming from the alternative medicine community that binaural beats could help induce relaxation, meditation, creativity and other desirable mental states. Binaural beats reportedly influence the brain in more subtle ways through the entrainment of brainwaves and provide other health benefits such as control over pain. Binaural beats may influence functions of the brain in ways besides those related to hearing. This phenomenon is called "frequency following response". The concept is that if one receives a stimulus with a frequency in the range of brain waves, the predominant brainwave frequency is said to be likely to move towards the frequency of the stimulus (a process called entrainment). In addition, binaural beats have been credibly documented to relate to both spatial perception and stereo auditory recognition, and, according to the frequency following response, activation of various sites in the brain. When the perceived beat frequency corresponds to the delta, theta, alpha, beta, or gamma range of brainwave frequencies, the brainwaves entrain to or move towards the beat frequency. For example, if a 315 Hz sine wave is played into the right ear and a 325 Hz one into the left ear, the brain is entrained towards the beat frequency 10 Hz, in the alpha range. Since alpha range is associated with relaxation, this has a relaxing effect, or if in the beta range, more alertness. An experiment with binaural sound stimulation using beat frequencies in the beta range on some participants and the delta/theta range on other participants found better vigilance performance and mood in those on the awake alert state of beta-range stimulation. Binaural beat stimulation has been used fairly extensively in attempts to induce a variety of states of consciousness, and there has been some work done in regards to the effects of these stimuli on relaxation, focus, attention, and states of consciousness. Studies have shown that with repeated training to distinguish close frequency sounds that a plastic reorganization of the brain occurs for the trained frequencies and is capable of asymmetric hemispheric balancing. I review Tom Rath's book Eat Move Sleep. It's a book of lists of life hacks for health. The book is a solid, well-researched set of lists. There is a great summary section for rapid review at the end of each chapter. There is no general or section-type organization; it's a set of almost random lists. Improving that would help. But still an excellent book. Ford Brewer is a physician that started as an Emergency Doctor. AFter seeing too many patients coming in dead from early heart attacks, he went to Johns Hopkins to learn Preventive Medicine. He went on the run the post-graduate training program (residency) in Preventive Medicine at Hopkins. From there, he made a career of practicing and managing preventive medicine and primary care clinics. His late role in this are was Chief Medical Officer for Premise, which has over 500 primary care/ prevention clinics. He was also the Chief Medical Officer for MDLIVE, the second largest telemedicine company. Now he's running a small start-up, Prevmed. We provide face-to-face heart attack and stroke prevention in our home location of Nashville, TN as well as several other locations. t is very important that we get sleep. However, when none of your muscles work, the mattress feels like it has a gravitational pull. It feels like your body weighs 1,000,000 pounds. This video shows how, in coordination with my wife, I am able to sleep. Typically I can sleep about two hours on my side, and about 3 to 4 hours on my back. We end up moving 3 to 4 times a night. For those who want to know, we have a Tempur-pedic soft split king mattress with the elevation package. This has been a very nice bed for me. Stay strong, a cure is near!
